beggar (NOUN) a poor person who lives by asking others for money or food.
charity (NOUN) a system of giving money, food, or help free to those who are in need
because they are ill, poor, or have no home, or any organization that has the purpose
of providing money or helping in this way.
compassionate (ADJECTIVE) a strong feeling of sympathy and sadness for the suffering or
bad luck of others and a wish to help them.
conform (VERB) to behave according to the usual standards of behaviour that are expected
by a group or society.
convict (VERB) to decide officially in a law court that someone is guilty of a crime.
disgrace (NOUN) embarrassment and the loss of other people's respect, or behaviour that
causes this.
earn (VERB) to receive money as payment for work that you do.
interfere (VERB) to involve yourself in a situation when your involvement is not wanted or
is not helpful.
scavenger (NOUN) a person who searches for and collects discarded items.
under-privilege (ADJECTIVE) (of a person) not enjoying the same standard of living or
rights as the majority of people in a society.
uneducated (ADJECTIVE) having received little or no education.
unemployed (ADJECTIVE) not having a job that provides money.
urge (NOUN) a strong wish, especially one that is difficult or impossible to control.
welfare(NOUN) help given, especially by the state or an organization, to people who need
it, especially because they do not have enough.
