Cake troubleshooting guide
If your cakes aren’t turning out quite like you hoped, take a look at this troubleshooting
guide, make a few adjustments and give the recipe another go.
Cake peaks in the centre
Possible causes and solutions:
Oven was too hot, causing the cake to rise too quickly and unevenly.
Too much baking powder or baking soda was added.
Use an oven thermometer to be sure of the temperature of the oven and measure your
ingredients carefully.
Cake is heavy and dense
Possible causes and solutions:
Too many eggs were added, or they were particularly large (average weight of an egg
is 52g).
Too much fat included in the recipe.
Raising agents were old and no longer effective.
The cake batter was over-mixed, knocking out all the air.
Cake sinks in the centre
