Report on the Meeting of the Review Committee for the Information Technology Syllabus
37. The SUBSEC received the report on the committee meeting for the review of the
Information Technology Syllabus and noted the timeline from introduction to revisions. Members
noted that revisions to the syllabus were done to ensure that the document was current and reflected
emerging trends in technology. Panel members felt that there should be an introduction of
troubleshooting and basic computer problems as these are critical skills items for students studying
st
Information Technology in the 21 Century. The most significant amendment to the syllabus was
a recommendation to change the programming language from Pascal to Visual Basic since the
latter was a more simplified user-friendly language and could be integrated across productivity
tools. It would also reinforce the application of programming to problem-solving tasks. The
SUBSEC noted other proposed changes to the syllabus and the outline of the assessment.
38. The SUBSEC considered the proposals of the Review Committee for revising the CSEC®
Information Technology Syllabus and noted that the finalised document would be submitted to the
SUBSEC for approval in October 2017 for teaching in September 2018 and examinations from
May–June 2020.
Report on the Meeting of the Review Committee for the Theatre Arts Syllabus
39. The SUBSEC received the report on the meeting of the review committee for the Theatre
Arts Syllabus and was apprised of the timeline of activities from introduction to revision.
Members noted the proposed changes to the syllabus which include: revision of the rationale, aims
and general objectives; clarification and elaboration of the specific objectives and content; and
re-organization of the syllabus in keeping with the Council’s policies on syllabus development.
The SUBSEC noted in particular, that the re-organization resulted in a compulsory core and
options to be taken from A-Drama, B-Dance, and C-Stage Crafts.
40. Participants were taken through the format of the assessment which would have candidates
complete Paper 01 which consisted of 60 multiple choice items focused on the core, Paper 02
which assessed practical skills in the chosen option and requires candidates to participate in
performance, and Paper 03/1 which requires candidates to critique a production and write a
research paper.
41. Dr Jeffrey Blaize, Dominica representative enquired how students could accumulate points
from prior practical applications toward the award of their final grade. The Pro-Registrar informed
the SUBSEC that a recommendation would be put before the Theatre Arts Panel when it meets in
May. She however, opined that if the performance was in a format to be replayed and meets the
criteria for the SBA then it could be considered.
