FIBRE AND DECORATIVE PRODUCT DESIGN
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
On completion of this Expressive Form, students should develop the ability to identify, prepare and
manipulate fibres and other suitable materials utilising a variety of techniques to produce functional
or decorative objects.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Students should be able to:
1. create drawings relevant to fibre and decorative product design;
2. analyse the cultural, economic and expressive value of fibre and decorative product design;
3. apply the elements and principles of design in producing decorative and functional objects;
4. use appropriate processes, materials and techniques for producing fibre arts;
5. use appropriate processes, materials and techniques for producing decorative and utilitarian
craft items;
6. utilise a design process to satisfy the specifications of a design brief;
7. apply appropriate health and safety procedures;
8. combine traditional and contemporary materials, designs and processes used in the
Caribbean and internationally in producing three-dimensional fibre arts and decorative craft
items; and,
9. critique own work and that of established local, regional and international artists.

3. Experimental.

1. functions of product design in society;
2. careers; and,
3. use of product design as expressive and creative outlet.
