LEATHERCRAFT


               GENERAL OBJECTIVE

               On completion of this Expressive Form, students should develop the ability to design and produce a
               variety of objects in leather using appropriate materials and techniques.


               SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

               Students should be able to:

               1.      create drawings relevant to Leathercraft;

               2.      analyse the cultural, economic and expressive roles of Leathercraft;

               3.      use appropriate surface decoration, manipulation and finishing techniques in the production
                       of leather objects (carving, modelling, burning, appliqué, pleating, braiding);

               4.      apply the elements and principles of design using leather;

               5.      store different types of leather;

               6.      assemble objects using one or a combination of different techniques;

               7.      evaluate historical and contemporary usage and processes within the Caribbean and other
                       cultures;

               8.      apply appropriate health and safety procedures;

               9.      use discarded pieces of leather in innovative ways;

               10.     critique own work and that of established Caribbean and International artists.


               CONTENT

               1.      Create Drawings:

                       (a)    Sketches;

                       (b)    Illustrations; and,

                       (c)    Experimental.


               2.      Cultural, economic and expressive roles of Leathercraft:

                       (a)    functions of Leathercraft in society;

                       (b)    careers; and,

                       (c)    use of Leathercraft as expressive and creative outlet.
