CERAMICS


               GENERAL OBJECTIVE

               On completion of this Expressive Form, students should develop the ability to conceptualise, design
               and produce ceramic ware based on given themes, by means of any hand-building or mechanical
               process using a variety of clay.


               SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

               Students should be able to:

               1.     create drawings relevant to ceramics;

               2.      analyse the cultural, economic and expressive roles of ceramics;

               3.      apply the elements and principles of design in various ceramic forms;

               4.      use  a  variety  of  materials  to  produce  ceramic  ware  using  hand  building  or  mechanical
                       processes;

               5.      use appropriate tools, equipment and techniques in the production of ceramic pieces;

               6.      apply appropriate health and safety procedures;

               7.      explore a variety of surface-decoration techniques;

               8.      critique designs and processes employed in the Caribbean and Internationally in producing
                       ceramic pieces; and,

               9.      assess own work and that of artists who are ceramists or potters.


               CONTENT

               1.      Create Drawings:

                       (a)    Sketches;

                       (b)    Illustrations; and,

                       (c)    Experimental.


               2.      Cultural, economic and expressive roles:

                       (a)    functions of ceramics in society;

                       (b)    careers; and,

                       (c)    use of ceramics as expressive and creative outlet.
