THREE-DIMENSIONAL EXPRESSIVE FORMS
SCULPTURE
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
On completion of this Expressive Form, students should develop the ability to conceptualise, design
and produce sculpture in relief or in the round based on given themes, by means of modelling, casting,
carving constructing and assembling, using materials, such as clay, stone, wood, metal and other
natural and man-made materials.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Students should be able to:
1. create drawings relevant to sculpture;
2. analyse the cultural, economic and expressive roles of sculpture;
3. apply the elements and principles of design in various sculptural forms;
4. use a variety of tools and materials produce sculptural forms using additive and subtractive
processes;
5. use appropriate tools, equipment and techniques in the production of sculptural pieces;
6. apply appropriate health and safety procedures;
7. critique designs and processes employed in the Caribbean and internationally in producing
sculptural pieces; and,
8. assess own work and that of artists who are sculptors.
CONTENT
1. Create Drawings:
(a) Sketches;
(b) Illustrations; and,
(c) Motifs.
2. Cultural, economic and expressive roles of sculpture:
(a) functions of sculpture in society;
(b) careers; and,
(c) use of sculpture as expressive and creative outlet.
