TEXTILE DESIGN AND MANIPULATION
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
On completion of this Expressive Form, students should develop the ability to create designs on fabric
using various techniques, such as, dyeing, printing, embroidery, hand painting, appliqué, and any
other suitable method. Students should also demonstrate fabric manipulation techniques, such as,
but not limited to smocking, ruching, pleating and tucking.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Students should be able to:
1. create drawings relevant to textile design and manipulation;
2. analyse the cultural, economic and expressive roles of textile design and manipulation;
3. apply the elements and principles of design to textile design and manipulation;
4. analyse textile designs and fabric manipulation processes;
5. analyse materials used in textile design and manipulation;
6. describe styles and techniques used in textile design and manipulation;
7. plan aesthetically pleasing patterns suitable for textile design;
8. apply appropriate health and safety procedures;
9. explore a variety of techniques used in the surface design and manipulation of fabrics;
10. use various materials to create fabric designs;
11. manipulate surface design and techniques to produce decorative fabrics and items; and,
12. critique their own work and that of established Caribbean and International artists.
CONTENT
1. Create Drawings:
(a) Sketches;
(b) Illustrations; and,
(c) Experimental.
