               STRUCTURE OF THE CXC® LANGUAGE FRAMEWORK: TEACHING, ASSESSMENT AND CERTIFICATION
               (CXCLF®)

               22. The proposed CXC® Language Framework (CXCLF®) will be based on teaching, learning,
               assessment and certification principles and practices similar to those used by the international standards
               and frameworks outlined above. It is proposed that emphasis will be placed on providing opportunities for
               students to communicate through practical, authentic and functional activities appropriate and relevant to
               their experiences. The languages will be taught with the focus on the four skills being learnt and used
               appropriately in the authentic contexts namely, social, travel, workplace, and study. Emphasis will be placed
               on students’ ability to listen to, read, speak and write the target language, as well as follow instructions.
               Accuracy and range of vocabulary and structures will vary according to levels. Table 5 represents an initial
               mapping of the international standards and frameworks against that of CXC®; and it is proposed to serve
               as the springboard for the revision of the existing language syllabuses, examinations, and certification
               processes and products to bring them into alignment with international standards and enhance their
               portability. The CXCLF® will therefore:

                   (a)  outline the Can do Statements (CS) in the syllabuses;

                   (b) specify the Performance Indicators (PI) for assessment; and,

                   (c) define and benchmark the scales to be used to certify language achievement and proficiency.
