158. FAC heard that in 2017, 67 per cent of the candidates achieved Grades I-III compared
with 71 per cent in 2016. While there was an improved performance on Profile 2, Speaking,
there was a decline on the other three profiles, Listening, Reading and Writing, with the
writing profile consistently being the lowest performing profile.
FAC 2017 (90) - TECHNICAL DRAWING
159. FAC heard that the overall performance in Technical Drawing improved compared
with 2016. The number of candidates who achieved Grades I–III increased to 77 per cent in
2017 from 68 per cent in 2016.
160. Candidates demonstrated competence in relation to drawing and labelling of
working drawings with important elements in the sectional elevation. However, candidates
demonstrated weaknesses in the production of assembly drawings and the reproduction of
specific views. They also experienced difficulties in producing well-proportioned sketches for
sketch and design problems.
FAC 2017 (91) - TEXTILES, CLOTHING AND FASHION
161. FAC heard that there was an improved overall performance in 2017 compared with
2016. Seventy-six per cent of the candidates who wrote the examination achieved acceptable
grades, Grades I–III, compared with 71 per cent in 2016. There was also an improved
performance on all three profiles compared with 2016. Performance on the Reflective Journal
at Grades A–C also improved compared with 2016.
162. FAC approved the recommendation to allow TAC to review the following SAC reports
once they became available.
FAC 2017 (27) - AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE
163. In Unit 1, 84 per cent of the candidates achieved acceptable grades, Grades I–V,
compared with 91 per cent in 2016. This Unit tested the fundamentals of agriculture and crop
production. The most challenging questions for the candidates were those which tested
transplantation and chemical usage impact.
164. In Unit 2, 86 per cent of the candidates achieved acceptable grades, Grades I–V,
compared with 94 per cent in 2016. The most challenging questions for the candidates were
those which tested the concepts related to integrated aquaculture systems and oestrus
synchronization.
FAC 2017 (28) - ANIMATION AND GAME DESIGN
165. This was new subject with the first administration in 2017. There were 102 candidates
in 19 centres from three territories registered for the examination.
166. Ninety-two candidates wrote the Unit 1 examination. Ninety-five per cent of the
candidates achieved acceptable grades, Grades I-V. Candidates performed best on Module
