5. The CXC e-Learning Strategy, approved by SUBSEC in October 2015 makes provision for the
extension of products and services already in existence as well as new business opportunities and
imperatives for the Council. The CXC Learning Institute is a manifestation of these new opportunities and
imperatives for the Council to leverage the affordances of new and emerging technologies to provide
training and other support to a worldwide audience.

               6. The CXC Learning Institute will provide an opportunity for the Council to diversify its revenue
stream by leveraging its in-house expertise and experience to provide services at a cost to both regional and
international educational institutions and examinations boards. Like the training arm of other examinations
boards, the CXC Learning Institute has the potential to become a major revenue earner for the Council.

Rationale for the CXC Learning Institute

               7. The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Learning Institute is being established as the training
arm of CXC and will provide short-term training courses to various stakeholder groups. The CXC Learning
Institute will offer regional and international training programmes via different delivery modalities. The
               CXC Learning Institute will:

                  I. Offer regional educators Teacher Orientation Workshops for revised or newly developed syllabuses
offered as part of the CXC suite to assist teachers in the delivery of these syllabuses. The focus of
teacher orientation workshops is to ensure teachers understand the changes to and requirements of
the revised or newly developed syllabus.

II. Provide teacher training sessions for teachers to ensure best practices in the delivery of the syllabus.
These workshops identify weaknesses in the delivery of the syllabus and prescribe strategies for
effecting solutions to these weaknesses. Workshops afford teachers a ‘hands-on’ experience and
training in teaching methodologies and practice.

III. Collaborate with ministries of education, regional and international universities, schools and other
organizations to implement best practices in teaching, learning and assessment.

IV. Provide an avenue for leading the conversation on emerging trends in teaching, learning and
                       assessment.

                 V. As the leading examinations board in the Caribbean Region, provide an avenue for sharing
innovative practices to stakeholders within the Region as well as extra-regionally. There is a
growing market in a number of African countries for training services and sharing of expertise and
best practice from an experienced board in the Caribbean.

VI. Provide support to international examinations boards on innovative practice in assessment.

VII. Provide opportunities for networking among Caribbean and international educators.

What the CXC Learning Institute will offer

               8. As the professional development arm of the Caribbean Examinations Council, the CXC Learning
Institute will offer a number of training programmes and events. The programmes that the CXC Learning
Institute will offer will fall into two broad categories; training and enrichment and networking. Training
programmes will be offered through the CXC Learning Institute via seminars and workshops using a
combination of face-to-face and online delivery modalities. Training programmes will include current CXC
offerings as well as extend the offerings to training opportunities not currently offered by the Council. The
