Star Light Night
Some of the children were throwing firecrackers
at each other. They were on the basketball court
popping their firecrackers and small bombs.
The festivity of long ago was somewhat different
from what it is today. Star Light Night was a
village celebration that ended with the final great
fire in the village centre. They would have lots of
motor tyres, set on fire and pulled through the
streets of the village, as well as tied bunches of
banana leaves and sheaves. Most of them ended
up in the middle of the village in one big heap.
But now, we have it the easy and clean way.
We just buy our fireworks from the shops and
light them. We do not get blackened or dirty, we
stay clean, no dust and soot at all.
Do you prefer our way or the other way?
Well Sophie prefers both, although she has never
tried the old way, but has tried our new way many
times.
