The Wrong Funeral
“Oh no!” Mrs Carton, an elderly woman cried as
she watched the news.
“No! It’s not true! Ah refuse to believe it! How
she could be dead? Ah talk to her yesterday!”
Her best friend, Roberta, has died of scarlet fever.
She had decided to attend the funeral despite her
illness.
She burst into the church half an hour late,
dressed in black. She took a seat near the back of
the church. “Slay-Slay!” she bellowed. “Roberta!”
she yelled as glistening tears tumbled down her
warm brown cheeks.
She missed the eulogy as a result of tardiness and
therefore, thought it was Roberta’s funeral.
The time came for friends and relatives to say a
few words. Mrs Carton rose and went toward the
microphone.
