finances Indiana’s In 1809 the town of Madison was founded and in
Civil War effort Fair Play No. 1 1811 Jefferson County was formed from parts of two
1861-1865 adjacent counties. In 1824 the City of Madison was incor-
porated. Together the county, city, and the ten towns that
make up the county are an area of firsts within the state

Hanover College, the oldest private college in the
state, was founded in 1827. The Madison,
