This Bum was paid to the Manama Municipality as a special grant for
raotallingia section of tho Sea Road. Out of this sum the Municipality purchased a
heavy road roller and oil boiler costing approximately Us. 11,000.
In addition to the above the following works, for which no provision was
made in tho Budget, were completed.
Drilling an artesian well at Itawar, which reached over 400 feet without
producing water. Rs. 1,784
Enlargement of Technical school „ 2,100
Adapting the Police Dispensary for
use as a hospital „ 2,800
New Sheds in Customs Import Yard „ 8,700
Completion of Police Station „ 1,400
Major repairs to Palace „ 3,200
Major repairs to Manama Girls School „ 4,800
Repairs and alterations wore also carried out in the Passport Office,
Adviserate, Customs House and in various other Government buildings.
9. Agriculture.
Budget estimate Us. 21,300
Actual expenditure „ 18,000
The cost of the agricultural expert was approximately Rs. 8,500 the remain
ing expenditure was on wages of gardeners at Budeya and at the Palace garden,
cost of seeds and trees which were supplied by the Government to the Manama
Municipality and cost of extension, cultivation, draining and fencing of the Budeya
garden.
10. Transport.
Budget estimate Us. 28,400
Actual expenditure „ 19,600
A new government launch was built for patrol work and two motor cycles
and two cars were purchased.
11. Unforeseen
Budget estimate Us. 20,000
Actual expenditure „ (57,400
Expenditure exceeded the allocated amount by 11s, 47,400 which was chiefly
owing to purchase by the Government of certain pieces of land which were disposed
of by Iranian subjects, these purchases amounted to Us. 38,000. The Government's
contribution to Pearl Associates of New York, Rs. 17,000, was debited under this
heading. The remaining Rs. 12,000 includes contributions towards the cost of re
pairing the Manama Mosque, the pay of special naturs employed during the crisis and
expenses in connection with the repatriation of foreign indigents.
1*2. Electric Dapartment.
Budget estimate Us. 60,000
Actual expenditure „ 84,000
This sum was advanced to the Electrio Department to enable it to purchase a
new engine.. The cost of the engine was Us. 63,434 and installation cost Rs, 4,454.
A further Rs. 16,000 was spent on buying A.O. Units and refrigerators which are
let out on hire.
