Persons Prosecuted
13. A total of 851 accused persons were prosecuted before the Courts in Bahrain in
respect of criminal and other offences reported during the year. Although this number
appears to be relatively high it is to be remembered that one-third of the total is in respect of
persons arrested and prosecuted for offences committed during the disturbances in November.
The distribution and disposal of persons prosecuted is as follows :

Important Cases
14. On July 15th, 1956, a certain Mohamed bin Mubarak Slati was murdered in a house
in the Thawawdeh Quarter of Manama. He arrived in Bahrain on June 11th, 1956 from
Daman, Saudi Arabia, for the purpose of settling a dispute with his wife who had left him and
come to Bahrain to live with relatives. On July 15th, 1956, he was in the house of a relative
discussing the settlement of the dispute with his wife, when a quarrel commenced which devel­
oped into a fight, as the result of which he sustained injuries causing his death. The body was
buried beneath stones in the courtyard of the house and was found the following day. The
accused absconded from Bahrain immediately after the commission of the crime and has not
been arrested.
