decision on the subjeot to tho Honorublo the. Governor in Counoil of Bombay, with whom it
will olso rest, on thi* statomont of His Lordship’s general views, to detormino to what extent
Coptain Ilennell’s reoommondition can bo prudently complied with from tho Indian Navy.
                           16. The Govornor-General trusts thnt whatever may bo tho rosult of Captain HonnoU's

aggression, there is no immodiato fear for the security of our ally, tho lmaum of Muscat.
                           16. Tho Governor-General is not sufficiently acquainted with tho condition and position
of Bryme to be able to form a judgmont of tho expediency of extending our protection to its
Chiefs. Such a measure appears to go beyond tho principle on which our relations with
other Chieftains in tho same quarter have been established, and is of a nature to demand much
caution and oonsidorathn ore it is fiuallv adopted. The nssistanoo afforded to tho Sheiks of
Bryme as roported in Captain Hennolrs letter of tho 10th July is approvod, and it is to be
hoped that if thoy aro attaokod by Synd bin Mootluk, the authorities of Muscat will see their
own interest in affording thorn support.
                          17. His Lordship is happy to porcoive from Captain IIcnneH’s lottor of tho 9th July
that tho removal of Mirza Afsud from tho Government of Buehire is a-oribed to a desire to
                       conciliate tho British Government.
                          18. I have only further to add that tho Governor-General presumes that no opportunity
