■Import Yard Charges shew an increase. These charges are
levied on the nature and size of the packages, and naturally
vary considerably. Included therein is H. E. the Deputy Ruler'3
Royalty tax on igento' Landing Charges, amounting this year to
»o.6558/6/6 of which Rj.5538/9/6 were collected from the Agents
of the B. I. 3. N. Co.,Ltd., and Kile naan Stnck Lines ('i‘he
Mesopotamia Persia Corporation Ltd) representing their collec
tions of Es. 1,10,77l/l4/- in Landing charges.
"Cargo directly transhipped at sea, but within the three
mile limit of the port, is not liable to any duty, and this has
a distinct effect upon Customs Receipts, notably in the case of
oil etc • , brought here by British Tanker Steamers from Abadan.
I have already submitted a note upon this point.

■The Port is mainly served both fcr passenger and cargo by
the British India Steam Navigation Co.,Ltd., whose steamers
call here weekly with the upaail, and fortnightly v/ith the
down mail. AIbo a weekly mail service wit ; the mainland ports
has been unofficially instituod, and is carried on by a local
motor l-aunch. The chief export from Bahrain is pearls, whose
value 18 only estimable, and do-.-s not appear here. It woulu be
of great assistance to merchants if the down mail could cull
