The expenses of this department are born^ntirely
by tne State but when it is re-organised the expenses should
be paid from the wakf funds.
Shia. The Shia wakfs were previously held oy the
Shia ^adi until his sudden death some six months ago. After
his death the wakfs were temporarily entrusted to Shaikh
Jlohomed Ali Hedani, executor of the late ~adi . For some
months no ^adi was appointed finally two ;adis were chosen,
Shaikh Abdulla and Aly bin Hassan. The latter, on his
appointment, stipulated that he should .lave nothing to do
with wakf8.
After some months Shaikn Abdulla asxea that the wakfs
should be handed over to him. He was persuaded to agree to
a com..ittee of which he would be President, to act with him
in administering the wakfs. The country people objected to
the ^adis presidency and appealed to Shaikh Hamad. Finally
the Government decided that neither Shaikh Abdulla or
Shaikh Mohomed Aly should control the Wakfs.
A coM-«ittee was appointed consisting of six persons
from the villages and four persons from liana ma and the
Wakfs were handed over to their charge. A 1 jcuI merchant
was chosen as treasurer but no president v/aa appointed in
order to placate the feelings of the ^.adi and Shaikh Llohomed
Ali both of whom are satisfied as long as tne otiier is not
in control.
Tne arrangement was successfully accomplished about
a month ago and so far there has been no serious opposi-
ti on.
