This subsidiary scheme includes overhead cable, carried
on poles, from Manama to Muharrak, with a submarine cable
section across the channel and a lay out, including street
and bazaar lights, which will distribute the current through
out the main residential area of Iruharrak. The actual dis-
tribution is liable to certain alterations which must depend
on the demand in the different districts•
The poles between Manama and Muharrak are to be built
into the southern wall of. the Manama Muharrak sea road.
■at the places where the poles are to be put the wall will
be built to its full height, strengthened by cement, and
protected on the north side by loose coral stone which has
been proved to be a most effective method of preserving
the inside wall. The south side of the wall is well
sheltered but the northern side received the full force
of the sea.
So far the demand for electricity in Muharrak has been
very small and only a few buildings have been wired; the
inhabitants apart from being very badly off this year, are
loath to incur the expense of wiring their houses before
the power is actually available.
The Mananah Baladiya paid 20^J of the whole scheme in
Manama h. It has now been agreed that the Muharrak Baladiya
shall pay a similar share in the scheme, i.e., 20^ of the
main Manama scheme and also 20fa of the Muharrak extension
and at the same time the Manama Baladiya will pay 20of
the Muharrak extension. In this way the payment for the
extension will be almost covered by the further contribu
tions of the two municipalities, but as the funds of the
Muharrak Baladiya are very limited, their contributions
will be paid to the government in instalments over a period,
of six years.
