                         1. Rice crop. Khan Bahadur Abdul Aziz
Gczaibi, one of the most enterprising land owners
who is more interested in agriculture than any

                    other private individual, experimented success
fully during the summer by planting rice in some
rich well watered ground near Abu Zaidan which

he recently acquired from Shaikh Abdullah bin Isa.
About 6C pounds of Hassa seed was sown and it
provided a crop of about 1250 pounds. A profit
of about 20% was made. I understand that the
experiment is to repeated next year.

2• Orange cultivation. More than four
dozen oranges were grown in Shaikh Hamad’s garden
at Sinian. They were of very good quality and
size and many of them weighing as much 8s between

10 - 14 ounces. A few trees died during the
year as they received too much water. The irri
gation presents difficulties as the trees are
planted among the rows of date palms which are
watered in the usual way on certain days of the

                    week.
                         3. Date crop. The aate crop and the
market for dates were slightly better than last

year end there were neither storms, disease or
locusts to damage the crop. Although the area
planted with date trees is steadily increasing
and more dates are being grown yet the Bahrain
dates are insufficient to maet the local demand
and dates are imported from Hassah and Iraq.

Owners of date gardens, especially certain
members of Ihe Ruling Family, complain inces-
