noted about Muhanna b. Khalfan: (a) There is a manuscript copy of a
Qur’an (Leeds, MS 112) dedicated to him and dated 1199/1785. (b)

al-Sa’ighl, was written, according to the author, for Muhanna b.
Khalfan in 1213/1799. (c) Muhanna obviously used this. He was a
prolific writer, for I saw a vast amount of his material in Muscat,
                     including a work called K. al-Athar fi ’l-adyan, Vol. 2 is MS 480, Vol. 4
MS 958. There is thus no wonder that there may have been some
confusion about who wrote what, cf. GAL, S1I, 349 and Schacht, item
