and is fairly extensively damaged. GAL, SI I, 568, lists the author, but
mentions only his Latf’if al-bikam ft $adaqat al-na'am. Cf. Schacht,
386, item 41, mentioning his jawSbat.
V.129. ‘Abd Allah b. Humayd al-Saliml, Kit&b TalqTn al-$ubyan ma
yalzam al-insan. Copied 1360 (1941). [155]
The work is known in North Africa, cf. Schacht, 396, item 129. It has
been published, as Schacht mentions, and the present writer acquired
the 8th edition, edited by ‘Izz al-Dln al-Tanukhl, in Muscat in October
1976. The book was published in Cairo, c. 1973.
V.130. Abu Nabhan Ja‘id b. Khamls al-Kharu§I, Kitab al-Zakah. [1135]
Wilkinson, AS, III, 143, gives his dates 1734/5-1822, i.e. c.
1147-1238.
V. 131. Kitab al-Jjaz. Copied 1197 (1782). [261]
V.132. Muhanna b. Khalfan al-Bu-Sa‘IdI, Khams khutab. Copied 1352
(1933). [649]
Cf. V.113 above. This work does not strictly speaking belong in this
section, though much of the contents seems to be on legal matters.
V.133. Khamls b. Abl Nabhan al-Kharu$I, Kitab Manasik al-bajj. Copied
1329 (1911). [723]
Cf. Schacht, 388, item 58, stating that the work is published.
V.134. al-Rabf b. Habib, al-Musnad, Vol. 8. Copied 1352 (1933). [1456]
The work is known in North Africa. Schacht, 379, item 6, says the
author lived in the 2nd/7th century and also calls the work al-Jami‘
al-sabib• He also states that the Musnad is printed. Cf. also GAL, SI,
691, who does not, however, mention the Musnad. The work is used as
a source by Harilhl in his ‘Uqud, cf. e.g. pp. 6, 66, etc. He has a
complete chapter on al-Rabf b. Habib, 149-56. See also 276. On 149
HarithI tells us that al-Rabf b. Habib lived at the same time as Jabir b.
Zayd who died in 93/711. HarithI also, in his edition of the Tqd, 18,
says that IbadI ulema everywhere refer to the Musnad. ‘Izz al-Dln
al-Tanukhl, in his edition of ‘isa b. Salih al-Harithl, Khula$at al-wasa’il
fi tartib al-masa'il, Damascus, n.d., page za’, says much the same thing.
It is perhaps not an exaggeration, therefore, to suggest that the Musnad
forms one of the bases of IbadI legal works throughout the ages.
V.135. Jtimi'jawabat J5‘id b. Khamls al-Kharu$I. Copied 1267 (1850). [41]
V.136. Ibid, copied 1264 (1847). [1222]
V.137. Ibid, copied 1288 (1871). [522]
For the author’s dates, cf. V.130 above.
V.138. Darwlsh b. Jum‘ah al-Mabruql al-Azdl, al-Dal2’il 1ala '1-lawazim

MSS known in North Africa and Schacht, 386, item 44, says the author
flourished about 1300H! (J.C.W.—He was a prominent qadi of
Ya‘<iribah times, i.e. 1624—mid-eighteenth century.) Cf. GAL, II, 409,
SII, 893. The British Library has a MS of the Da/57/, Or 2085, though
this contains only the first 19 babs. Cf. also HariUu. lUqud, 281.
