Article 17

the duties and responsibilities of the Representative of the Ruler and his staff the
Company hereby undertakes to make appropriate arrangements to recompense
the Representative and his staff therefor on a scale to be separately agreed.
Article 18
The Ruler will co-operate to the utmost of his ability with the Company in the
protection of its operations, employees and property, by appointing armed guards
as and when required by the Company for this purpose.
The guards and like employees required for the Company’s enterprise are
to be appointed by the Ruler, provided that their number and equipment shall
be adequate for the purpose in view. The Company shall pay the customary wages
and provide them with accommodation and provisions as circumstances require.

and the Ruler provides no guarantee to the Company and bears no responsibility
towards it in respect of any damage which may occur owina to circumstances
beyond his control.
Article 19
Labourers employed by the Company shall be from Abu Dhabi only with the
exception of technicians and administrative and other personnel not available in
Abu Dhabi. The Company shall place requests with the Representative of the
Ruler to provide such local labourers and it shall have no right to employ any
labourer or car driver from Abu Dhabi without his knowledge and approval.
In case the representative of the Ruler fails to supply the required number
of labourers, then the Company shall have the right to bring them from outside
Abu Dhabi.
The Ruler shall have the right to request the Company not to employ in
Abu Dhabi any person or persons who in his opinion are undesirable from the
point of view of public security or other governmental interest and the Company
shall conform to the request of the Ruler without hesitation.
Upon the dismissal of any national of the Shaikhdom of Abu Dhabi the
Company shall forward to the Representative a written copy of the reasons for
dismissal.
Article 20
The Company shall as soon as possible offer all reasonable facilities in the
direction of training and teaching the nationals of the Shaikhdom of Abu Dhabi
who are employed by the Company so that such nationals may become qualified
to perform clerical, technical and administrative duties with the Company.
Article 21
The Company shall keep the Ruler informed as to the progress and result
of drilling operations. The Company shall give the Ruler copies of all maps and
drawings and all information it may obtain whether during the exploration or
drilling or exploitation periods. A duly authorised representative of the Ruler may
at all suitable times inspect such maps and the geological records in the Company’s
possession in the Shaikhdom of Abu Dhabi. All of such information shall be
regarded by the Government of Abu Dhabi as confidential.
Article 22
A duly authorised representative of the Ruler may have access at all suitable
times to the books of account regarding production and sales. All of such informa
tion shall be regarded by the Government of Abu Dhabi as confidential.
One of the superior local employees of the Company shall be designated chief
local representative of the Comapny in Abu Dhabi. After the commencement
of drilling he will be ordinarily resident of Abu Dhabi, or of such other place
asf may be agreed, and will be responsible for the Company s relations with Abu
Dhabi authorities.
