A new blacksmith teacher was appointed in place of one who resigned, he was enlisted through
the British Council authorities in Beirut. A new teacher of Arabic and Arithmetic was appointed.
The Technical School has always done well in sports, during the year the school team won
the inter-school Basket Ball, Football and Volley Ball Matches and received the challenge cup which
was presented by the Minister of Education, His Excellency Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa AIKhalifah.
The school held their usual exhibition of work in the Godhabia Palace at the same lime as the
exhibition of the work of the girls schools. All the furniture exhibited was sold and both woodwork
and metalwork received high praise.
The health of the boys during the year was satisfactory and attendance was good.
The school still has to contend with the inherent feeling that manual labour of any form,
whether carpentry or mechanical work, is " infra dig
The expenditure on the Technical School in 1370 was Us. 68,800, a sum which compares very
favourably with the amount spent upon non-tcchnical education, the cost to the State of each boy
was approximately Rs. 700, but this sum does not include the monthly allowances which arc paid
to the boys and which amount to Us. 3,150 per annum.
