            Bills of Entry.—The total number of Bills of Entry dealt with was 24,356, an increase of
       4,181 over 1369.

            Shipping Bills.—The total number of Shipping Bills dealt with during the year amounted
       to 40,848, an increase of 7,686 over 1369.

            The increase in both the number of Bills of Entry and Shipping Bills emphasises the growing
       importance of Bahrain as a principal centre of trade in the Persian Gulf.

       Accidents within Port Limits :
            (1)  On the 2nd February, 1951, a local launch, which was being fitted with a new engine,
       while on trial, caught fire, in Manamah harbour. The engine room, and the engine were destroyed.
       The craft was later repaired, fitted with a new engine and returned to service.
            (2)  On the 16th March, 1951, a local launch caught fire by the bursting of a stove. The
       engines were totally destroyed by fire, and the hull was partly destroyed. The hull was later repaired,
       fitted with new engines, and returned to service.
            The Light Tender vessel paid her usual visits of inspection to the lights and buoys.

       Electricity Undertaking :
            The Power Station.—Early in the year the new 850 kW Generating Set was completed and
       on 4th Jamad Awal, 1370 (10th February, 1951) His Highness Sir Shaikh Salman bin Hamad
       AlKhalifah, k.c.i.e., k.c.m.g., Ruler of Bahrain, accompanied by His Excellency Shaikh Ali bin
       Abdulla Al-Thani, Ruler of Qatar, who was visiting Bahrain, officially started this machine, thus
       increasing the total installed capacity of the station to 2,350 kW.
