The rebuilding of No. 5 Generating Set was completed and this machine is now giving a satis*
                        factory performance.
Two old type Generating Sets, installed in 1928, were removed and sold for scrap metal, tlic
space made available being used for the casting of a large concrete bed in readiness for the installation
of additional machines during the coming year.

The supply of electricity was maintained without any major interruption despite the heavy
strain occasioned by an unusually prolonged and very hot summer.

Mains Department.—A very heavy programme of work was again carried out this year. The

connected, bringing the total number of consumers to 2,955. The total additional load connected
                        was 904 kW.

Meter Department.—During the year, 528 meters were repaired, tested and reissued for
service and 1,039 applications for electricity supply were received. At the end of the year some 1,223
                         applications were still outstanding.

Wiring, Sulcs and Service Department.—Electrical installations for the following premises
were carried out during the year:—
                             The Boys’ Secondary School.
The Mental Hospital and T. B. Hospital, Awali Road.

                             The Government Hospital (additional).
                             The Budeya Garden (additional).

twenty-one. Licences were also issued to eleven additional Wiremen.

Future Prospects.—The? large increase in the use of electricity this year is expected to con-
tinue during 1371-1372 and orders have been placed in the United Kingdom for three new Generating
Sets totalling 2,150 kW. A new transmission and distribution system has been planned for Muharraq
and this work will be completed during next year.
Much of the Low Tension distribution system in Manamah is due for renewal and large
quantities of materials for this have been ordered. The work of the Mains Department has grown
tremendously and efforts arc being made to obtain skilled linesmen from India to speed up the
connection of outstanding applicants for electricity supply.
