This issue of the Dilmun magaine pulishcd y the Bahrain Historical and
Archaeological Society represents a ١ew dcparture since the society started its
pulication over ten years ago. It contains articles and studies in oth Araic and
English after these had een only written in the latter. With this step we are hoping
to provide a service for our readers in these two languages.

The reader shall notice a slight change that has occurred on the contents of this
issue, We have decided to pulish astracts or short summaries of the articles that
appear in one language in the other. For instance al! articles in Araic shall have
summaries in English and vice versa. With this we aim at giving an idea to the
students who do not converse in this language aout the nature of these articles.

On the other hand, we have endeavoured to strike a alance etween history
and archaeology. In the past, the majority of articles were devoted to archaeology
in the ifrst at the expense of history. With this, we try to emody the goals of the
society in encouraging research in the fields of history and archaeology of Bahrain
in particular and that of the region in general.

A word of thanks is due to the new editorial committee of this magaine and to
the H.E. Shaikh lsa in Mohammed AI halifa, President of the Bahrain
Historical and Archaeological Society and memers of the committee who spared
no effort in helping us ring aout this issue.
