Dirhams of Yusuf are now known from the years 317, 318,4 320,
321, 323, 326, 330, 331, and 332, and dinars from 328 and 329.
The mint is always ‘Uman. Coins of ‘Uman, 316, show the name of
another ruler, ‘Abd al-Khatim b. Ibrahim (who is otherwise
unknown), while those of 333 bear the name of Yusufs son and
successor, Muhammad. Largely on the basis of this numismatic
evidence Yusufs reign is dated from 316 or 317 to 332 or 333 (ca.
928-45 A.D.).5
3. Quarter-dinar, ‘Umar b. Yusuf, ‘Uman, no date. (Gift of Eric P.
Newman, 1972, in honor of George C. Miles). 14 mm.,
0.92 gm. Plate I, 3.
