shrewdness. Upon the mud floors of those
houses where they suspected it to have been
buried they poured a quantity of water, and,
judging that the earth had been recently dug-
up from those spots where the moisture im­
mediately sank and disappeared, they com­

menced a strict search, and in many instances
with the desired success.
