The life of this unusual cancellation was little over 3 weeks for, by
                     June 14th, a canceller inscribed ‘EXPERIMENTAL P.O. K-79’ (Type 10)
had been received from Karachi and put to use. Registered letters of
this period carried, from June 6th, blank numbered Registration Labels
inscribed ‘KUWAIT’ in manuscript; but, from July 4th, the labels were
                     hand-stamped ‘EXPERIMENTAL P.O. K-79’.
Such “Experimental P.O.” cancellers and registration labels were
normally only used at newly-established post offices but, in this case,
were obviously supplied as an emergency measure whilst new Kuwait
cancellers were made. The “K” indicates Karachi which was responsible
for post offices in the Gulf, and did not signify Kuwait.

A study of covers bearing these two emergency cancellations
between May 24th and September 28th, 1941 is most interesting and
reflects the difficulties that followed the closing of the Post Office. The
stamps are a mixture of overprinted and unoverprinted KG V and KG VI,
with no denomination higher than the Kuwait 6 anna Air Mail of 1934.
