on all the Edwardian stamps to 8 annas and - very rarely - on the
early K.G.V. stamps.
The “EXPERIMENTAL P.O. K-4” cancellation (Type 12)
cannot be regarded with certainty as belonging to Muscat; but in
view of the number being the same as the cancellation of the 1870s,
there is some ground for believing that this may be a Muscat cancella
tion. It is recorded on a cover addressed to Bournemouth on “1.10.02”
but the flap of the envelope, which might have provided details of the
sender’s address, is missing. The cover is back-stamped with the single
circle “SEA POST OFFICE” date-stamp of October 4th, 1902 and
also shows the last letter (“N”) of part of another back-stamp most of
which had been struck on the missing flap.
