Other postal markings include the Registration Cachet (Type
         16) which was used during the latter part of the 19th and early years of
         the 20th centuries (Seen 1891 — 1905). The letter ‘N’ stood for
‘Number’, and it is thought that ‘W’ signified ‘Weight’.
Muscat was later supplied with blank numbered Registration
Labels on which the small (Type 17) hand-stamp (Seen 1917—18) and
large (Type 18) hand-stamp (Seen 1941-48) were used. The large
hand-stamp is also found impressed directly on covers; and, in at least
two instances in 1948, the P.O. Clerk carefully drew a ‘registered
label’ around the hand-stamp in red ink!

                        Type 19 Type 20

The Postage Due cachets (Types 19 and 20) were very rarely used.
