Pilgrimages and Retreats
Beautiful place to meet god
SANTA Teresa is a special place to encounter God through prayer and re ection amidst the beauty of
God’s creation.
Owned and run by the Archdiocese of Bris-
bane, Santa Teresa provides a modern and well- equipped facility set on the shores of Moreton Bay looking across to Stradbroke Island.
“Whether you come as an individual or as a member of a group, for a day or an overnight stay, your spirit will be refreshed and renewed by a combination of the following elements – the natural beauty of the setting, the cleanliness and comfort of the 30 ensuited rooms, the versatility of the four formation spaces, the quietness of the prayer spaces and chapels, the warm hospitality and attentiveness of the staff, the nourishment
of the wonderful meals, and the appeal of the landscaped grounds,” a spokesperson for the
spirituality centre said.
The Carmelite Sisters living next door wel-
come guests to join them for morning Mass or to come and pray in their chapel.
Santa Teresa’s Blessed Sacrament chapel is a prayer cave, available 24 hours a day for visitors.
The Hermitage and Cana prayer spaces, coupled with the Labyrinth and Quandamooka Prayer Walk, provide outdoor prayer places where visitors can commune with God.
Just 40 minutes from the Brisbane CBD and the Brisbane airport, Santa Teresa is readily accessible yet it takes the visitor into a deeply re ective place. One guest spoke of their experi- ence as “visiting heaven on earth”.

Pilgrim journey to India
“ONE Heart and One Soul” is a spiritual tour to India being offered in February 2018.
“While we have to deal with the outer
world of politics, culture, society, religion and individual behaviours, we can forget the inner world of the soul or simply take it for granted,” a spokesperson for the organisers said.
“In fact it needs deliberate attention.”
The spokesperson said that how well people dealt with that inner world bore directly on “how well we deal with the outer world”.
“It is important that we always remember that life is a journey,” they said.
“More importantly we take comfort from the great promise, ‘I am with you’ (Exodus 3:12).” India is a land steeped in spirituality and sensu- ality, contemplatives and mystics.
For centuries it has been a place of pilgrim- age.
“On this spiritual tour to India, we will travel as a pilgrim community, creating opportunities for conversation, silence, group meditation, personal re ection and Mass,” the spokesperson
said. “It will be as much a journey in the heart as it is a journey across sea and land.
“The latter evokes the former; the former makes the latter rich and life giving.
“We will be challenged in many ways, cultur- ally and environmentally. We will leave behind our comfort zone and undoubtedly receive a jolt to mind, body and spirit.
“This could awaken us to new possibilities, not only in India but also here.”
The highlights of this pilgrimage will be a Mass at St Teresa of Kolkata’s tomb followed by visits to some of her homes and a four-night meditation retreat in Goa led by Fr Joe Pereira. Fr Pereira is the founder and managing trustee of Kripa Foundation.
Organiser Marie Fonseca is conducting her sixth Indian pilgrimage.
