Thank you for the opportunity to be considered for this position. My career is deliberately
comprehensive, with experience leading teams to success and achieving exceptional results at both
local and regional scales, including:
• Organizational growth to enable results: I have effectively developed team capacity and served
in leadership roles for cities in the San Diego region, along with leading policy planning and
projects for Los Angeles Metro, which serves the 10 million residents of Los Angeles County.
• A perspective to know how to get things done: My background includes experience as a public
administrator, consultant, developer project management and community leadership.
• Communicating and collaborating toward the goal: I am highly experienced at navigating the
administrative, policy and political environment to achieve results, supported by my strong
communication skills, command of process and application of objective methodologies.
• Getting it done: I have a track record of streamlining processes, creativity and finding solutions
backed by effective management skills and successful collaboration. Structure, technology
and team-building are integral to how I approach accomplishing what needs to be done.
I am interested in this position because of the opportunity to guide, grow and collaborate with the
team in supporting the City to further quality economic development that is equitably shared across
Sacramento. Characteristics of my candidacy include the following approaches in these areas:
• Leadership, management and collaboration. I value vertical and horizontal teaming across the
agency, backed by management tools. Modeling behaviors, collaboratively defining purpose
of our work and a willingness to be vulnerable are key elements of my leadership approach.
• Elected official engagement. I have built trust and achieved results working with elected
officials, which enables connecting the organization’s operations with policy and politics
effectively. To do so, I rely strongly on solid technical work backed by a communicative,
methodical process, balanced with a thorough understanding of the political environment.
• Public engagement. I have designed and led a variety of successful engagement strategies,
recognizing the high value in having innovative, broad and effective public engagement
programs. This enables alignment with the community, ability to equitably advance regional
responsibilities and achieve high quality results. I value being accessible to stakeholders.
• Service excellence. I create efficient and enduring business processes with related performance
measures, which promote operational excellence, transparency and high-functioning teams. I
provide the structure, tools and leadership to allow teams to thrive. Customer service is
paramount and I build tools to help the organization achieve excellence in service delivery.
• Technical expertise. My core technical practice experiences include land use, transportation and
environmental planning. Knowledge in these disciplines enables me to relate to the team and
stakeholders we serve. I have experience with urban design, land development engineering,
building safety, code enforcement, housing, redevelopment/revitalization and more.
