I understand that improvements are needed in the Public Utilities Department, and I am
a strong believer in continuous improvement. Obviously, making changes in an
organization as large and diverse as the City of San Diego requires vigorous and
persevering efforts, and I have been a leading change agent throughout my career. And I
have worked in cities that are leaders in measuring and monitoring performance and
                   results.

Having recently moved to San Diego from San Jose, via a year in Sydney, I am
enthusiastic about the possibility of applying my experience to lead the water and
wastewater efforts in San Diego. I find the possibility of working in the City of San
Diego very exciting as this can provide the platform to study and implement progressive
and innovative technological and business solutions that are continually emerging in the
                   environmental fields.

I enjoyed my special opportunity to live and work in Sydney. While there I worked with
ISCA, the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia, to improve their
sustainability metrics methodology, and with the City of Willoughby (a Sydney city) to
develop their next generation Climate Action Plan.

I am currently enjoying my work as a local government consultant with Management
Partners focusing on helping local governments make organizational improvements.
With Management Partners. I have been able to see organizational improvement from a
somewhat different perspective, and have successfully contributed to over a dozen
cities, counties, and districts. I would, however, consider this Directorship with the City
of San Diego as the ideal position to continue achieving my foundational career drivers:
infrastructure improvement, environmental progress, being of service to my
                   community, and continuous organizational improvement.
