Kester and I have worked closely over the years on overlapping issues, providing me a clear
understanding of the commitment necessary to stay in front of issues and achieve desired
outcomes.
– Serving as the Program Manager for the Bay Area Biosolids Coalition, coordinating and leading 19
Bay Area member agencies in their efforts to “Develop a Diverse and Robust Portfolio of Beneficial
Biosolids Resource Recovery Projects for the San Francisco Bay Area.” To do this, I facilitated
discussions with the decision makers of each member agency and led the Coalition’s efforts to
evaluate subregional projects that seek to support achieving the state's GHG emissions reduction
targets set for 2020, 2030, and 2050. These targets not only include renewable energy and low
carbon fuel targets, but also seek to improve soil health. I oversee the Coalition finances to ensure
we can support academic research documenting the benefits of biosolids used as soil amendment,
and coordinate with members to conduct that research. I regularly present the latest findings of
both the evaluation of subregional projects and valuation of land applying biosolids at CASA
conferences to keep its membership aware and use it as an opportunity for questions and feedback
from the broader community.
– Through engagement in industry associations, I seek opportunities to broadly increase
organizational awareness, drive improvement in best practices, as well as consider innovative
approaches or emerging technologies, to adapt to changing operational conditions and the complex
regulatory landscape. All the while, I continue to seek lessons learned from my industry peers. My
industry association experience includes:
o Serving as the Water Environment Federation Residuals and Biosolids Committee’s Bioenergy
Technology Subcommittee Vice-Chair since 2018, to promote biosolids and energy technologies
associated with municipal, agricultural, and industrial wastewater residuals for the protection of
the environment. I assist in the coordination of seven task forces to produce fact sheets,
webinars, articles, manuals, and online materials that serve as a resource to the broader
membership and regulators. The task forces meet bimonthly and include: High Performance
Anaerobic Digestion, Biofuels, Combined Heat and Power, Energy Funding, Thermal Drying,
Thermal Oxidation and High Temperature (i.e., pyrolysis and gasification), and Co-Digestion.
o Served as Chair of the American Water Works Association’s Water Resources Sustainability
Division Climate Change Committee (June 2015 – June 2018), coordinating 100+ members from
across the U.S. and Canada via monthly conference calls, emails, and website updates to share
information and resources on climate change impacts to water supply (including publically
available tools and reports, peer-reviewed articles, etc.), develop conference sessions and
webinars, as well as co-chaired/co-authored/edited the Climate Action Planning manual (M71),
due to be published by the end of 2019 and serve as a guidance document to water and
wastewater agencies developing Climate Action Plans.
o Served as Chair of the Water Environment Federation Residuals and Biosolids Committee’s
Greenhouse Gas Subcommittee (October 2014 – October 2018), coordinating 60+ members
from across the U.S. via monthly conference calls, emails, and an online communications
platform (WEFCOM) to share information and resources related to GHG emissions inventorying,
reporting, legislation, and regulations, in effort to develop a broad understanding of the drivers
for emissions inventorying and management, then determine best practices for going forward. I
also led the Subcommittee in preparing and delivering five climate change conference sessions
