As one of the vocal and public facing leaders of the Public Works Department, I was responsible
for improving transportation city-wide, both in city rights of way and working with Caltrans on their
interchange and US 101 widening improvements. I was a senior staff member in the Transportation
Planning Division of Santa Barbara’s Public Works Department. Managed roadway safety
programs, developing the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plans, and assisting the City Traffic
Engineer, Derrick Bailey, with everything from right-of-way maintenance, to intersection
improvements and signal design. I also worked with the maintenance division to improve parking,
signage and implement a carshare program in partnership with Zipcar. I reported in writing and
through pulic presentations to the Plannining Commission, Historic Landmarks Commission,
Transportation and Circulation Committee, and the City Council on countless occasions.
I wanted to return to northern California and seek a better, higher level job.

Between 2010 and 2013 in a contract position, I managed the SFMTA’s transportation planning
activities, climate mitigation and adaptation programs, bicycle infrastructure program, and the
NEPA/CEQA clearance for a variety of public works improvements. I was also in charge of
developing the multi-million dollar 5-year Capital Improvement Plan and the multi-billion dollar
20-year Capital Plan for San Francisco’s transportation system. The job required high-level writing
abilities and supervisory skills, along with strong organizational and public speaking skills. I served
as the staff liaison to the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan
Transportation Commission (MTC) and helped both agencies understand San Francisco’s
transportation and land use issues and the benefits of SFMTA’s capital projects.
Contract term came to an end and I needed time to be with my family (cancer).
