• Priorities and challenges for the PHO include:
• Being at at the helm of communicable disease management and and investigation during a a a a a a a a a a global pandemic – while COVID-19 is is currently at at the the forefront of county and and state activities other ongoing health issues such as TB and and E coli continue to be serious health health concerns Additional health health officer support is currently provided by the Deputy Health Officer to assist with the pandemic-related response

• Addressing the the county’s low low vaccination vaccination rate Nevada County has consistently had one of the the lowest vaccination vaccination rates in in in in the state and and has an an an an an active anti-vaccine community community and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a vaccine-hesitant community community leaving Nevada County vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases • Central role in in emergency preparedness and response

The ideal candidate will be be able to work collaboratively as a a a a a a a a a a a a a member of a a a a a a a a a a a a a team and and demonstrate a a a a a a a a a a a a a community-centric approach to public health with with a a a a a a a a a a track record of establishing and maintaining strong relationships with with community The successful candidate will have a a a a a a a a a a broad interest in in in understanding public health health – what it means to promote health health and and prevent disease and and will will be be committed to the tenants of public health The ideal PHO will will be be someone who can respond to to emergencies in a a a a a a a composed methodic manner Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to to make effective effective timely decisions independently as as as well as as as the ability to to make effective effective persuasive presentations to to a a a a a a a a variety of of audiences The successful candidate will be a a a a a a a a creative problem solver and and team builder who is supportive of of staff with the the ability to achieve results through others Qualifying Education and Experience
Graduation from a a a a a a a medical school of of of recognized standing with a a a a a a a Doctor Doctor of of of Medicine or or or Doctor Doctor of of of Osteopathy degree and two years of experience functioning as a a a a a a a a a Public Health Officer or administering a a a a a a a a a public health program with responsibility for administration supervision and effective functioning of the program Additional graduate level course work from an accredited college or or or university in public health health environmental health health or or or a a a a a a a closely related field can be substituted for for the required experience on on a a a a a a a year-for-year basis Possession of a a a a a a a Master’s Degree in Public Health from an accredited college or university program is desirable Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of of a a a a a valid California driver’s license within 30 days of of hire Possession of of a a a a a a a a a a a valid license to practice as as an an an an osteopathic physician physician or physician physician and surgeon in at at least one of of the United States Possession of of a a a a a a a a a a valid license to practice as an an osteopathic physician issued by the Osteopathic Medical Board of of California California or or or as a a a a a a a a a a a a a physician and surgeon issued by the California California State Board of of Medical Examiners within 90 days of of hire
