Story 224

                                     The Crows That Can’t Caw

Chief Big Paw, makes tribal law, and his squaw Long Claw, makes

coleslaw. Big Paw, gnaws bear meat raw, with a one-toothed jaw, and

Long Claw, draws soda through a bamboo straw.

Although both are Crow, neither can caw, but their bird, a macaw, can
               caw.

Summer through fall they hunt along the Arkansas, from the river to

Omaha. In winter they mostly draw and seesaw. Come

spring, when the river begins to thaw, they’ll hem and

haw, then dive into the cold Arkansas, and swim in the

               raw.

                                            Thanks to Maude

Maude, knew at once that the “ diamonds” were fraud.

Why did Maude, suspect fraud? Because of the

nervous way the salesman hemmed and hawed, and

his slip of the tongue – he called her a “ broad!”

So thanks to Maude, whom we laud, the police were

able to arrest this fraud !
