Story 243

                                              Fraught with Trickiness

The teacher said, “ Class, I am ready to teach, if you are ready to be

               taught.

“ We ought to start with ' ought,' usually spelled ought, but sometimes
aught. Likewise, ' nought,' meaning nothing, may be spelled nought or

               naught.

“ Never say catched for caught. Never say buyed for bought, nor

brung for brought, nor fighted for fought. However, you may say

               either worked or wrought.

“ Now, class, is it thinked or thought? Is goodness seeked or sought?

And with a “ gh” is a rope held taught?

              Santa Claus

                                               There ’s always applause,

                                                    For Santa Claus,

                                                         Because,

                                                      Of his cause,

To give gifts to the McGraws,

And to others who keep their moma's laws
