Story 263

              The Utmost Party

Once on Maine's northernmost seacoast, we were invited by a
most gracious host, to a party that was truly the uttermost.

Modest George Yost, would not in the least boast, but his yard

would, with a lantern atop each post. We were served caviar on
toast, and the tastiest roast. Every guest proposed a toast,

which was laughed down with a witty riposte.

The next day this foremost party was ballyhooed in The New
York Times, and The Washington Post.

A Slogan on Which to Dote

Candidate Goldie Oats mused, "I need a slogan that people will note,

one on which they will dote. It must be something they can learn by

               rote, and readily quote."

Satisfied, she beamed and began to gloat. These two she would emote:

A VOTE FOR OATS, WILL MAKE YOUR TAXES EASY TO TOTE !

A DARK HORSE NEEDS HER VOTES,

AS WE THE PEOPLE NEED OUR GOLDIE OATS !

                                                            1. A "dark horse: is a long shot, or an unlikely choice.
