Open Education Resources
Highlight
Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning,
teaching and research materials in any format and
medium that reside in the public domain or are under
copyright that have been released under an open
license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose,
adaptation and redistribution by others. What this
means for our students is that faculty who use OER’s
in their classes save their students the cost of
purchasing those materials.
The library has been at the forefront of the OER
movement. Working with Education Technology, this
year they recruited and accepted the second OER
Faculty Cohort.
Two cohort members identified OER textbook
replacements for their courses for Fall 2022 saving
their students the cost of textbooks and supplemental
material. Moreover, a faculty survey was administered
in November to gain a better understanding of how
OERs are viewed and used at Chatham. This
information will inform future endeavors.
