Philippine Consul General Meets with NYPD Police Commissioner
Philippine Consul General in New York Ma. Theresa B. Dizon-de Vega
met with New York Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill at the NYPD Headquar-
ters to promote stronger cooperation with New York's police force.
During the meeting, Consul General de Vega thanked Commissioner O'Neill for
the security arrangements being provided by New York's Finest for the Philippines'
diplomatic personnel based in New York, visiting Philippine officials, and the Filipi-
no-American community.
The Consul General also extended the Filipino-American community's
appreciation for the active participation of the men and women of the NYPD during
the Philippine Independence Day Parade, Cultural Show, and Street Fair held last
4 June 2017.
The NYPD and the Philippine Consulate General likewise agreed to con-
tinue discussions on the possible renewal of the existing MOU on Cooperation in
Preventing and Combating Transnational Crimes between the Philippine National
Police (PNP) and the NYPD. Consul General De Vega noted the importance of

Mariners’ Day Event at the
PH Consul General in New York
Meets with Senator’s State Director Philippine Center, New York
In observance of the US Maritime Day, the
Philippine Consulate General in New York hosted on 22
May 2017 a “Mariners’ Day Forum” at the Philippine Center
with the Seamen’s Church Institute of the Port of New York
and New Jersey.
A briefing was conducted by Mr. Stephen Lyman,
Director of International Seafarers’ Center of The
Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI); Rev. James Kollin, the
Filipino Chaplain of SCI; and Ms. Naomi Walker, also of
SCI. The event was attended by the officers and staff of
the Consulate and the Fil-Am community leaders in New
York and New Jersey.

B. Dizon-de Vega met yesterday with Ms. Emily Arsenault,
State Director of the Office of US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand,
at the Philippine Consulate in New York last June 7, 2017.
Consul General Dizon-de Vega and Ms. Arsenault
discussed possible areas of collaboration between the
Consulate and Senator Gillibrand, one of New York's two
senators in the US Senate.
The Consul General also informed Ms. Arsenault of
the legislative issues affecting the Filipino-American
community like immigration, education and health care. Ms.
Arsenault expressed Senator Gillibrand's interest in
establishing closer links with the Fil-Am community so that
their concerns could be better heard and addressed.
