nd
Reynaldo Cardenas, Administrative Officer of the Philippine Consulate General in New York, held his 2 one-man
exhibit at the Lobby-Gallery of the Philippine Center in New York on May 11, 2017
The exhibit dubbed “Bagong Landas” presents 17 new works by Cardenas who has been involved in painting for the
last seven years. Mr. Cardenas’ first solo exhibit at the Philippine Center took place in 2016.
Mr. Cardenas’ works explore the impressions made by the diverse places he has visited in connection with his work
in the Philippine Foreign Service. Approaching retirement from government service in June of 2017, the latest exhibit also
provides some ideas about the future artistic direction of Mr. Cardenas.
Mr. Cardenas is part of an informal group of artists from among staffmembers of the Philippine Consulate General in
New York who have been studying various artistic mediums. He also currently serves as Vice President of the Society of
Philippine American Artists (SPAA).
On hand at the exhibit’s opening were Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations Teodoro L.
Locsin, Jr. and Mrs. Louie Locsin, Consul General Theresa Dizon-De Vega, Philippine Center Manager Arman R. Talbo,
officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General, Philippine Mission, Philippine Center, New York-based artists,
community members, family, and friends of the artist.

Consciousness Week, which was participated in by staff members of the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and the

the Philippine Center.
An inspiring message about autism as a condition affecting about a million Filipinos today and a
touching call to action for public servants to understand the struggles of the families who live with autism, was
conveyed by Mr. Thor Indanan, the Consulate’s Finance Officer.
The ceremony was a prelude to the 2017 Fashion Arts Autism Benefit (FAAB) which will take place at

Autism Hearts Foundation with Philippine Department of Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial as guest of honor.
