Romaine Investigation Update
FDA Investigation Update
• FDA published water testing has identified a pathogen matching the outbreak strain in an ag
reservoir used to irrigate crops on the property of a single ranch in Santa Maria
• The FDA added more items to the advisory list, cauliflower and red leaf and green leaf lettuce
grown in Santa Maria by the same farm
• FDA has stated they are not yet convinced that this explains all of the illnesses in this outbreak
and they continue to examine traceback information
• Leading Produce Food Safety organizations will be working closely with the FDA to learn more
about the practices on this farm which could have resulted in contaminated romaine lettuce
entering the marketplace
Impact to IHOP
• The identified farm is not a contract supplier in our network
• QA has confirmed with our contract suppliers there is no business with the identified farm
• CSCS contracted suppliers have not been implicated in the investigation, we still have no way to
seek reimbursement for discarded product
