11. The vitamins, minerals, proteins and enzymes in the ingredients require time
to be soaked up by your hair. Try and leave these masks in for as long as
possible to help you hair reap the maximum benefits of their natural
goodness.
12. Some masks contain apple cider vinegar as a key ingredient, while extremely
beneficial at cleansing your scalp, apple cider vinegar can also cause
irritation to your skin if left on for too long. When a mask recipe calls for
the use of apple cider vinegar, wash it off after twenty minutes.
13. Some hair masks will ask you to use eggs for their many benefits for your hair.
The yolk helps to moisturize your hair, while the egg white help clean away
excess oil from your scalp. When you make your masks with eggs, use
the whites if you have an oily scalp, and the yolks if you have dry hair. If
you have normal hair, use the entire egg and soak up its benefits!
14. You will also need to prepare infusions for some hair masks, such as hibiscus
or rosemary infusions. These are easy to prepare and can be steeped and
stored in large batches for future use.
15. When you apply the hair masks, divide your hair into sections before you apply,
and apply the mask into each section. This will ensure that the mask is
applied evenly.
16. Use a brush to apply the mask onto your hair with the most efficiency.
17. Most masks have a tendency to drip slightly, especially since some of them
are extremely runny in texture. To avoid a smelly mess around your
floors, spread newspapers around your work area and drape a towel
around your shoulders before you apply the mask.
18. Once you do apply the mask, cover your hair with a shower cap or a plastic bag
to seal the contents in.
19. It is best to rinse the mask contents off with lots of cold water, especially if they
contain apple cider vinegar or eggs.
20. Do not rinse off egg masks with warm or hot water, as this will cause the eggs
to cook and get stuck in your scalp. No one wants scrambled eggs in
their hair!
21. Most masks will not require the use of a shampoo afterwards, unless you don’t
like the way your hair smells.
22. Use a sulfate-free organic fruit shampoo to wash the mask out. This will seal in
the natural goodness and prevent any shampoo chemicals from ruining
the mask’s work.
23. The foods that make good hair masks are also an essential part of a diet for
healthy hair. Make these foods a part of your daily meal plan for hair
therapy from inside out.
24. Drink plenty of water to help your hair stay hydrated and toxin-free.
25. Stress, worry and tension are known to be major contributing factors in most
hair problems. Remember to keep stress and worry at bay for a gorgeous
head of hair!
