        English Literature

        (Edexcel iGCSE English Literature 4ET1)

Whilst GCSE English Language is compulsory and essential for all pupils, GCSE English Literature is
an additional qualification available to those with enthusiasm, ability and aptitude.

During the first half of Michaelmas term in Year 10 pupils will all study the same text, ‘An Inspector
Calls’, then there will be a confirmation of sets which will be the first phase of selection for this
extra qualification. It is a very rigorous exam, especially the ‘unseen poetry’ part, hence the element
        of selection.

The key aim of the department is to ensure that all pupils succeed with their GCSE English
Language as a matter of priority. It is also worth noting that there is no additional time for this – it
will be taught concurrently with the English Language GCSE.

Units of study and examination criteria:

Pupils will complete two main units -

        Drama Coursework (40%)
Pupils will complete coursework based on their learnings of set texts ‘An Inspector Calls’ and
        ‘Macbeth’.

        Exam (60%)
Unseen poetry essay, Poetry Comparison and an essay on ‘Of Mice and Men’ by John Steinbeck.
(1hr 45mins for all three essays).
