        History

        (Edexcel GCSE 1HIO)




        History is an increasingly valuable subject, highly regarded by educational establishments and
        employers alike. Studying history helps pupils to discover how the world today has evolved and
        provides them with the context to understand the society in which they live. It helps pupils to
        develop the skills to look beyond the headlines, to ask questions properly and to express their own
        opinion.


        Units of study and examination criteria:

        Pupils will study three units -


        Unit 1 (30%)
        A thematic study based on the history of warfare and British society, c1250-present. Pupils will also
        undertake a historic environment study based on London and the Second World War. The exam is 1
        hour and 20 minutes in duration.


        Unit 2 (40%)
        Combines a British depth study on Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, 1060-1088 with a period
        study based on superpower relations and the Cold War, 1941-1991. The exam is 1 hour and 45
        minutes in duration.


        Unit 3 (30%)
        Comprises of a modern depth study based on Russia and the Soviet Union, 1917-1941. The exam
        is 1 hour and 15 minutes in duration.
