Geography
(Cambridge International Examinations Geography 0976)
Geography engages pupils with the physical and human environments around them and helps
them understand topical and complex global issues. It has capacity to inspire young people through
travel and exploration and to inform government policy.
Geography has increasingly popular at GCSE across the country as it is highly regarded by
universities and employers.
Units of study and examination criteria:
Pupils will study three units -
Unit 1 (45%)
Broken down into the themes of the human environment, the natural environment and economic
development. Within these themes pupils study population, settlement, tectonics, rivers, coasts,
weather, climate, development, food production, industry, tourism, energy and water resources.
Unit 2 (27.5%)
Geographical skills which include cartographic, geographical information systems, photographic
such as satellite and aerial as well as graphical and data handling skills.
Unit 3 (27.5%)
Fieldwork skills in a range of environments to include urban and either rivers or coasts.
